- Each year colleges and universities support about 3,600 Merit Scholarship awards for Finalists who have been admitted to and will attend their institutions. As a sponsor-institution, IU awards this scholarship to all National Merit Finalists that indicates IU as their first choice through the National Merit Scholarship Program and receives sponsorship from IU.
