Future Scholars

All students who apply by the November 1 Early Action (non-binding) deadline will receive the highest scholarship consideration, regardless of whether or not they choose to have test scores considered as part of their application.

Your next steps

If you’re applying to IU as a first-year student, follow these steps for the best chance at scholarships to help fund your education.

1. Submit a complete application for admission to Indiana University Bloomington no later than November 1.

All applicants who meet this deadline will be considered for IU Academic Scholarships. There is no additional application for these scholarships. Recipients of an IU Academic Scholarship will be notified in mid-February via email, followed by a letter in the mail.

2. File your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

Many scholarships and other forms of financial aid require students to have a FAFSA on file. The FAFSA will open in December. Our priority deadline is April 15, but we recommend completing yours as soon as possible.

3. Submit your General Scholarship Application through the IU Scholarships task in One.IU.

Complete all questions on the General Scholarship Application, and submit by February 1. Then complete any additional applications listed under "Other Recommended Opportunities". All scholarship recipients will receive notification via email by March 15. Students should utilize information in their Financial Aid Summary post March 15 for enrollment decisions.

4. If you’re invited to complete the Selective Scholarship Application (SSA), submit your application by February 1st.

The SSA is by invitation only. If you’re eligible, you'll be notified via email from the Office of Scholarships. Give yourself plenty of time to make sure everything is submitted by the deadline.

5. Browse Non-IU Scholarships.

Keep searching for more scholarships you might be eligible for. Paying for college often involves a variety of different funding sources.

Tip: Each year, students can complete the General Scholarship Application to search for additional scholarship opportunities. All incoming students should submit their application by February 1 for maximum scholarship consideration.
