Simeon enjoys giving back to IU in any way that he can.
Simeon Washington came to Bloomington from Champaign, IL. He had no idea the impact that IU would have on him, but he was determined to soak up the new experience. “I had no idea what a Hoosier even was.” Simeon said. “I didn’t know what Little 500 was. I had never even watched an IU basketball game.”
Simeon was quick to immerse himself in IU’s culture, and in no time he was bleeding Cream and Crimson. From camping out to get front row seats to see Victor Oladipo play, to volunteering to be a student ambassador for the Kelley School of Business, to standing outside for 2 and a half hours watching a bike race – Simeon can’t imagine life without IU.
“I love this place. The people. The tradition. Buffa Louie’s breakfast. You just can’t beat it.” Simeon really enjoys giving back IU in any way he can, which frequently involves telling prospective students and parents why Indiana University is so great. Even back in Champaign, home to the University of Illinois, that passion spills over. “When I go back home and tell my friends about IU, they don’t understand why I get so hyped up. But that’s just because they don’t know what it’s like to be a Hoosier. I always tell them, ‘Just visit. Then you’ll get it.’” Simeon hopes to continue to give back to IU long after he graduates in 2016.
