Kelli McDevitt

Majors: Finance, Accounting

Hometown: Bloomington, IN

Classification: Alumni - Class of 2016

Kelli is a Bloomington local, but still makes IU her own.

Growing up in Bloomington gave Kelli a unique perspective on what her years at IU would hold. “My entire life I told my parents I was going to school somewhere that was a plane ride away,” Kelli says. However as she came closer to making a college decision, her opinion shifted. “I realized IU offered everything I wanted from a college experience and more.”

One caveat Kelli had was that even though she was still in her hometown she wanted to meet new people and try new things. “I still remember my best friend’s speech at my high school graduation where she told our senior class to go out into the world and do something that scared ourselves.”

Kelli took that challenge and became extremely involved in some of the many campus organizations IU Bloomington has to offer. “My very first week on campus I joined IU Dance Marathon and from there my involvement on campus took off. I went on to join a sorority and various academic organizations such as the Consulting Workshop.”

These new experiences allowed Kelli to form new relationships while learning valuable leadership and technical skills. This past summer she had an internship with PwC in New York City, something that was completely outside her comfort zone. “Before this summer I had no ties to New York, I basically saw it as a great opportunity and went for it. If I think back to my freshman year self I never would have thought about going to a huge city on my own for an entire summer.”
