Ani found his Hoosier family through an organization on campus.

One of Ani’s best experiences at IU has been being a member of the Admissions A-Team. When he joined his freshman year, he was nervous about giving a tour alone for the first time. “When I stood in front of the crowd, however, it felt as if something took over me and all of that nervousness went away. Giving tours became one of my passions.”

Having to talk about his new favorite home and his experiences allowed Ani to not only destress, but also helped him make an impact on potential new students. He grew close to his team and felt a sense of community. “The A-Team became my little Hoosier family. The more tours I gave, the more confident I became with myself.” Ani’s public speaking skills improved, and he really saw the impact he had on the hundreds of students he met each semester.

When Ani was an Orientation Leader over the summer, he had a family approach him and thank him for the impact he had on their student a year ago. It turned out that the student had been in Ani’s tour group and his experiences and stories had influenced her decision to attend IU. “It was that day that I realized that I knew I wanted to have that kind of impact on people every day and decided to look into a future in Higher Education and Student Affairs.”
