Scholarship Advisory Committee
Who We Are
The Scholarship Advisory Committee (SAC) is a diverse and strategically assembled team of academically talented IU scholars who represent various scholarship programs, majors, ethnicities, hometowns, and areas of interest on campus. Committee members provide feedback on and insight into how scholarship-eligible students approach the college selection process, and what the IU experience has been for them since they matriculated. Additionally, committee members participate in a variety of recruitment events and activities, are featured in various forms of communication, and serve as idea generators for future events, initiatives, and scholarship processes.
Szia! Hoosier scholars learn to say “hi” in more than 80 languages.
History of the SAC
In order to better serve and fully understand key constituents, the Office of Scholarships created the IU Scholarship Advisory Committee.
The inaugural class of the SAC was assembled during the 2007–08 academic year and consisted of five members. Over the years the SAC has grown to its current membership of 75 Hoosier Scholars. Traditionally members are nominated for this prestigious committee by the Office of Scholarships or by one of our campus partners.
The purpose of the committee was to have members meet periodically to provide feedback and insight into how high-ability students approach the college selection process, and what their IU experience has been for them since matriculating. Additionally, committee members serve as idea generators for future events and marketing campaigns and communications. SAC members are representative of different scholar communities that make up Hoosier Scholars.
What We Do
Below are a few examples of the various things that SAC members participate in throughout the year.
A select group of prospective students is invited to a special tailgate coordinated by the Office of Scholarships in partnership with IU Athletics to enjoy the experience of a Hoosier football game. SACers engage prospective students and their families and help answer their questions.
These conversation events for recently admitted Hoosier Scholars are held in target recruitment markets.
Hoosier Scholar Welcome
This program helps say “Hello!” to new Hoosier Scholars during Welcome Week by introducing them to other scholars in the IU community.
SACers are highlighted each month on the Office of Scholarships website to share their experience with prospective Hoosier Scholars.
SACers interact with prospective students in an online chat to help answer any questions about life as a Hoosier Scholar.
The Office of Scholarships coordinates numerous student and parent visits that help provide a friendly and personal interaction with the IU scholar community. SACers provide student perspectives during these visits.
Social & Volunteer Activities
SAC members gather to participate in community volunteer activities as well as social events to get to know each other and give back to IU and the Bloomington community.
