Q&A

Why do you belong at IU?

I am a Hoosier native. I have lived in Bloomington for as long as I can remember, and there is no other place I would rather be.

What do you like most about your major or scholarship program?

I like the opportunities. The information technology field is exploding, and has become an integral aspect of any type of business or organization. Conceivably, I could pursue a career in a wide range of fields because an Informatics degree is extremely versatile.

What is an interesting fact about you that most people would find surprising or unexpected?

I’m big fan of romantic comedies. Those movies always get to me.

Where is your favorite spot on campus?

Probably the Starbuck’s in the Union. Sometimes I just like to relax there, read a book, and watch people go by.

What is your favorite thing about Bloomington?

I love that Bloomington is just the right size. There are enough things here so that there is plenty to do, but not so big that you become to feel overwhelmed.

Tell us about your family.

I have an extremely supportive family that has guided me into the person I have become today. They push me to be the very best, and they are always there for me. I love them.

What is the best college experience you have had so far?

So far it has got be the IU v Kentucky game. The atmosphere was insane, and rushing the court is something that I will never forget.

What do you want to do after you graduate?

Ideally I’d like to get a job where I can exercise the concepts I have learned in college. I would love to work for a tech company, although I’m still not exactly sure what specifically it is I want to do.

What music are you currently listening to?

Mackelmore

What is your advice to students interested in Indiana University?

Schedule a campus visit, now! This is a great university with so much to offer. The people are great, the faculty is excellent, and the environment is welcoming. I am continually amazed with all of the possibilities this university provides to its students.

Tell us about your favorite class or teacher.

So far my favorite class is turning out to be I300, which I am currently enrolled in. It is an Informatics coursed focused on Human Computer Interaction and Design. The class is really interesting because it is causing me to reevaluate many things that I had not previously considered. The professor is great. We don’t take notes, we sketch them. We are literally encouraged to “doodle,” with a purpose of course, as that is what designers do. It is an extremely interesting class, the discussions are lively, and I look forward to attending it each day.

What fun extracurricular activities have you been involved with?

I have been given the chance to blog through the Office of First Year Experience. I’ve volunteered at the local Boys and Girls Club. Through the School of Informatics and Computing I’ve been able to work as an intern, and have provided a myriad of technical services to local nonprofit organizations in the area. Additionally, I recently got involved with the Indiana Daily Student. It’s the local student ran paper here on campus, and I have been given the opportunity to collaborate with other students as an opinion columnist. I am very excited to get involved, and I look forward to seeing what other opportunities lay ahead.
