Automatic Academic Scholarships

Automatic Academic Scholarships are awarded to all incoming freshmen who meet the following academic criteria at the time of admission, regardless of major.  No separate application is necessary for consideration. November 1 is the priority date for admission and merit scholarship consideration.  These scholarships are renewable for four years (eight semesters) of study at IU by maintaining a 3.0 cumulative program GPA.  For a complete list of renewal criteria, click here.

SAT score considered is based on Critical Reading and Math sections only; ACT score considered is the Composite score.

IU Excellence (in-state)
$9,000 per year

IU Excellence is a scholarship awarded to the best and brightest students in the state of Indiana for their excellent academic achievements in high school. In-state students that have a SAT score of 1310 or above or ACT score of 30 or above, and a minimum GPA of 3.80, will receive an IU Excellence Scholarship at the time of admission (valued at $36,000 over four years).

IU Distinction (out-of-state)
$9,000 per year

IU Distinction is a scholarship awarded to the best and brightest out-of-state students for their distinctive and outstanding academic achievements in high school. Out-of-state students that have a SAT score of 1310 or above or ACT score of 30 or above, and a minimum GPA of 3.80, will receive an IU Distinction Scholarship at the time of admission (valued at $36,000 over four years).

IU Prestige (all)
$5,000 per year

IU Prestige is a scholarship awarded to in-state and out-of-state students who have attained a prestigious level of academic achievement in high school.  Students that have a SAT score of 1260 or above or ACT score of 28 or above, and a minimum GPA of 3.70, will receive an IU Prestige Scholarship at the time of admission (valued at $20,000 over four years).

IU Recognition (all)
$2,000 per year

IU Recognition is a scholarship that recognizes in-state and out-of-state students for their academic achievements in high school.  Students that have a SAT score of 1160 or above or ACT score of 26 or above, and a minimum GPA of 3.60, will receive an IU Recognition Scholarship at the time of admission (valued at $8,000 over four years).

Valedictorian Award (in-state)
$1,000 per year

Indiana residents who are ranked number one in their graduating class at the time of admission will automatically receive the Valedictorian Award in recognition of their outstanding academic achievements in high school (valued at $4,000 over four years).

Students may only receive one of the following scholarships:  IU Excellence, IU Distinction, IU Prestige or IU Recognition. The scholarship received will be based on a student’s residency and academic criteria at the time of admission.

International students are eligible for one of the following Automatic Academic Scholarships:  IU Distinction, IU Prestige, or IU Recognition.
